How to Reset a SaluSpa (and What to Do If It Won't Turn On)
A SaluSpa has no single reset button. The only button Bestway’s manuals label RESET is on the GFCI plug, and you test it (TEST, then RESET) before every use. That RESET restores power after the test; it doesn’t clear error codes or fix faults. Every other “reset” depends on the situation: hold the lock button if the panel is locked, unplug and plug back in, or wait for the water temperature your error code names. If the GFCI won’t reset or trips again, stop and call Bestway or an electrician.
Which pump this covers. I checked four Bestway owner’s manuals, and they don’t always agree. I cite them as AirJet Plus (pump S100205: Vancouver, Milan; 2020), AirJet (pump S100105: Miami, Bahamas, St. Moritz, Helsinki and the rest of that range; 2020), Coleman (the Coleman SaluSpa 90363; 2017) and S400 (the S400105/S400205 pumps; 2023). The same code can mean different things on different pumps. The brand on the liner won’t tell you which pump you have; the label on the pump and its manual will. Panel clues: a Wi-Fi button points to the AirJet Plus or a Wi-Fi S400; ON/OFF without Wi-Fi, to the AirJet or an S400; no ON/OFF button at all, most likely to the Coleman 90363. For any other pump, its own manual beats this page.
Safety note: check your pump against the 2024 recall. In September 2024 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of about 866,000 Bestway AirJet and HydroJet spa pumps sold with SaluSpa, Coleman and Hydro-Force spas from May 2021 to May 2024, because they can overheat and catch fire (recall 24-359). Before troubleshooting anything below, read the model number on the label on the side or back of your pump. The recalled models are P05332, P05339, P05711, P05807, P07000, P07001, P05511, P07034 and P07572. If yours is one of them, stop using it and follow the CPSC recall notice or Bestway’s recall page for a free replacement or a refund. The SaluSpa pump recall guide walks through the label check and what to do next.
Which reset does my SaluSpa problem need?
Find your situation, then your pump’s pages. This table is about getting the spa running again; what each code means is in the SaluSpa error codes guide. Four rules come before every row:
- Unplug before you touch the pump, filter or fittings. All four manuals: “You must ensure the pump is unplugged before beginning spa maintenance to avoid risk of injury or death” (AirJet Plus p. 19, AirJet p. 21, Coleman p. 9, S400 p. 14).
- Moving the pump off a full tub? Unplug it, then fit the stopper caps in the spa’s ports before you disconnect it, the way the manuals handle a leak (AirJet Plus p. 23, AirJet p. 25, Coleman p. 11): two caps on the 2020 pumps, three on the Coleman.
- Not in the rain (AirJet Plus p. 5, AirJet p. 4, Coleman p. 3); the S400 manual forbids plugging in a wet plug (p. 4). I’d also handle the plug only with dry hands, from outside the water.
- Burning smell, smoke, deformed plastic or an unusually hot housing: unplug if you can do it safely, and stop using the pump. That’s my safety call, given the recall hazard.
| Your situation | The reset the manual gives | Pumps · pages (AirJet Plus / AirJet / Coleman / S400) |
|---|---|---|

| Panel dark; buttons do nothing | Hold ON/OFF 2 sec; its light turns green | Not the Coleman, which has no ON/OFF · 16, 23 / 19, 25 / — / 13 |
| Display flashes “End” | Hibernation, not a fault: hold lock 3 sec (see below) | Coleman only · — / — / 8 / — |
| E01: flow sensors on with filter and heat off | Unplug, strike the side of the pump “but not violently” (Coleman: “firmly (but not violently)”), plug back in. Comes back: support | All four · 25 / 26 / 8 / 17 |
| E02: no water flow | No reset step. Unplugged, fix the cause your pump’s manual lists; the causes differ by pump, so go by your page. See the E02 checklist | All four · 25 / 26 / 8 / 17 |
| E03: water below 40°F | Unplug; restart only at 43°F (6°C). Real water above 44.6°F (7°C): broken thermometer, support. See the E03 guide | All four · 25 / 26 / 8 / 17 |
| E04: water above 119°F | Don’t get in. Unplug; restart at 100°F (38°C) or lower. Real water below 113°F (45°C): broken thermometer, support. S400, if heat or sun caused it: unplug, detach the pump, drain, reattach after 15 minutes; if it returns, get the spa out of direct sun | All four · 25 / 26 / 8 / 17 |
| E05: thermometer connection | Support. S400 only: “Unplug the spa, wait 5 minutes, and then plug it back in while switching the pump on”; if it returns, support | All four · 25 / 26 / 8 / 17 |
| E08 (2020 pumps) or E06 (Coleman): thermal cut-out | Unplug, put the pump in a dry, cool place, restart only at 93.2°F (34°C) or lower. Causes: air above 122°F (50°C) or direct sun. Trips in normal weather: support | 2020 pumps and Coleman · 25 / 26 / 8 / — |
| E08 on an S400: water above 116.6°F | A water-temperature alarm on this pump, not the cut-out code. Don’t get in. Unplug; restart at 97°F (36°C) or lower. If heat or sun caused it: unplug for 15 minutes, then restart heating; if it returns, get the spa out of direct sun | S400 only · — / — / — / 17 |

| Bubbles stopped | 30-minute auto-shutoff: press massage again. Blower overheated: unplug, wait 2 hours, plug in, press massage. Then support | All four · 16, 23 / 19, 25 / 8, 11 / 12, 15 |
| Heater quit after a timed cycle | The power-saving timer runs once: set it again. Cancel: hold the timer button 2 sec | All four · 15 / 18 / 8 / 12 |
| GFCI plug | TEST cuts the power, RESET restores it. Fails, won’t reset or trips again: stop (below) | All four · 4, 13 / 3, 16 / 2, 6 / 3, 11 |
| GCF (“6CF”) or E18 | Not a reset: grounding alarms, and RESET on the GFCI won’t fix the outlet. GCF: one try in another properly grounded outlet, never an extension cord, or an electrician (not sure that outlet is grounded? electrician); if it returns, electrician. See the GCF and E18 guide. E18: electrician immediately. Pump fault: Bestway | S400 only · — / — / — / 17 |
Two cut-out numbers, on purpose: the error-code tables say 93.2°F, the “does not heat properly” rows say 95°F, and each goes with its own situation. And Bestway’s online FAQ covers other pump generations with other numbers (for E03 it says to wait for 50°F), so where it disagrees with your manual, follow your manual.
Is there a reset button on a SaluSpa?
Yes, but it’s on the plug, not the pump. In all four manuals the only button labeled RESET is on the GFCI plug at the end of the cord, and the test runs before every use (AirJet Plus p. 13, AirJet p. 16, Coleman p. 6):
- Plug the GFCI in. The light turns red.
- Press TEST. The light goes off.
- Press RESET. It turns red again, and the spa is ready.
“Do not use the pump if this test fails” (same pages; S400 p. 11). No manual describes a factory reset or a reset button on the pump.
Bestway’s online FAQ does say “The reset button is located on the side of Bestway spa heater,” tied to a thermal switch that trips with water over 131°F (55°C), in very hot weather or in direct sun. None of the four manuals shows such a button. No button on yours? Then there’s nothing to press; go by your code. If yours has one, ask Bestway support for your model’s steps.
What do I do if my SaluSpa won’t turn on at all?
All four manuals start with power: “Pump does not operate” means a power failure or a broken GFCI (S400: “Power circuits is broken”), and the fix is “Check power source,” then support (AirJet Plus p. 23, AirJet p. 25, Coleman p. 11, S400 p. 15).
First, plug straight into a grounded outlet, with no extension cord or multi-plug adapter: the AirJet Plus, AirJet and S400 manuals say those can overheat the plug (pp. 13, 16 and 12). The Coleman manual says “Connect to a grounded, grounding type receptacle only” (p. 2). Don’t use the spa if the plug or outlet is damaged (AirJet Plus p. 13, AirJet p. 16, S400 p. 11).
Stop if the GFCI won’t reset or trips again when the pump starts. The manuals’ GFCI warning: when it doesn’t work as described, “there is a ground current flowing indicating the possibility of an electrical shock. Disconnect the power until the fault has been identified and corrected” (AirJet Plus p. 4, AirJet p. 3, Coleman p. 2, S400 p. 3). Don’t keep pressing RESET. Call Bestway support about the plug or a qualified electrician about the outlet. Don’t bypass or swap the GFCI, rewire anything or open the pump.
Then, in order:
- No light on the plug? If the breaker for that outlet has tripped, have an electrician check it before using the spa again.
- Light on? Run the GFCI test above.
- Test passes, panel dead? Hold the lock button (3 seconds; 2 on the S400), then ON/OFF for 2 seconds if your panel has one, then unplug and plug back in. The Coleman 90363 has no ON/OFF; once powered up, its display shows the water temperature on its own (p. 8). What each light means on the AirJet Plus panel: the panel lights guide.
- Still nothing? Bestway support, with the model number from the pump’s label.
Why does my SaluSpa shut off again right after I reset it?
Some owners describe a pump that runs for a few seconds after a reset and then cuts out. Don’t reset it over and over; work out which of three things is happening:
- The GFCI trips again. That’s the stop rule above: no more resets.
- A code appears. Go to its row. E02 means flow; E08 (E06 on the Coleman) points to heat.
- The panel locks. That’s the 5-minute auto-lock: hold the lock button.
What does “End” mean on a Coleman SaluSpa display?
It’s hibernation, on older Coleman pumps such as the 90363. The 2017 Coleman 90363 manual (p. 8): “After 72 hours of filtration (without using the power saving timer function), the pump will hibernate and flash “End” with the current water temperature. When the pump is hibernating both the heating and water filter functions are disabled. To re-active the pump press lock/unlock button for 3 seconds.” Bestway’s online FAQ says it applies to “The version produced before 2018,” and none of the three newer manuals mentions it.
So a Coleman that shows “End” and has gone cold isn’t broken: heating is off by design. Hold the lock button for 3 seconds, then check that the heat and filter lights are back on. The manual ties “End” to 72 hours of filtration without the timer; it doesn’t promise the timer prevents it, so I won’t either.
How long should I unplug my SaluSpa to reset it?
Online guides say anything from 10 seconds to 15 minutes. No manual gives a wait for a plain restart; the AirJet Plus, AirJet and Coleman manuals just say “unplug and plug in the pump” (pp. 23, 25 and 11). The waits they do give hang on a condition: 2 hours for an overheated blower; a water temperature for E03 (43°F), E04 (100°F) and the cut-out (93.2°F with the code, 95°F without); and on the S400, 5 minutes for E05 and 15 for E04 or E08. A short wait does no harm, but the condition is what counts.
What should I never do when resetting a SaluSpa?
| What you’ll read online | What the manuals say |
|---|---|
| “Hold the reset button for 5 seconds”; hold Wi-Fi “5 to 10” | No such steps. The manuals’ holds: lock 3 sec (S400: 2), ON/OFF 2, timer cancel 2, Wi-Fi 3 |
| Open the control box; replace the fuse | The fuse is listed only as a cause (“Heating element failed or fuse cutout”), and the fix is support (AirJet Plus p. 23, AirJet p. 25, Coleman p. 11). It’s mains power, and the recall was about overheating: leave it closed |
| Dry the control unit with a hair dryer | “Do not permit any electric appliance, such as a light, telephone, radio, or television, within 5 feet (1.5 m) of a spa” (AirJet Plus p. 4, AirJet p. 3, Coleman p. 2, S400 p. 3). Wet electrics: Bestway or an electrician |
| Keep resetting a GFCI that trips, or bypass it | Possible ground current: power off until the fault is fixed (stop rule above) |
| Get in to check the water after an E04 | Measure with an accurate thermometer first; spa water should never exceed 104°F (AirJet Plus pp. 4–5, AirJet pp. 3–4, Coleman pp. 2–3, S400 p. 3) |
Will a reset fix a recalled pump?
No. The recall goes by the model number on the pump’s label, and the CPSC’s remedy is to “immediately stop using the recalled spa pumps” (recall 24-359). The parts lists show the pump as P05339 in the AirJet Plus manual (pp. 9–10) and P05332 (U.S.) in the AirJet manual (pp. 8–13), and both are on the recall list. The Coleman 90363 manual lists its spa heater as P4G080USASS17 (p. 5), which isn’t, and the S400 manual lists no part numbers. Pumps get swapped, so the label on yours decides; the SaluSpa pump recall guide walks through the check.
FAQ
Does unplugging reset my temperature setting? None of the four manuals says whether the pump keeps its settings. After any restart, check the set temperature (the default is 95°F) and that the heat and filter lights are on.
Why does E02 come back after I reset it? Because the cause is still there. No manual says how E02 clears. Once you’ve fixed the flow problem, if the code is still showing, unplugging and plugging back in is a reasonable restart; if it comes back, work through the E02 checklist, then contact support.
My SaluSpa stopped after a power outage. What now? Treat it as “pump does not operate”: power source, then the GFCI test. If it comes back with E03, the water got too cold: unplug and restart at 43°F, as the E03 guide explains. If it’s freezing and the water can’t get there, I wouldn’t leave the tub full and unplugged: drain and store it. The 2020 and S400 manuals warn that “If the Freeze Shield™ system isn’t working, alarms will pop up on the spa” (AirJet Plus p. 5, AirJet p. 4, S400 p. 4); see Freeze Shield explained. The Coleman 90363 has no Freeze Shield, and its manual says the spa “should not be setup or left out in temperatures lower than 40°F” (p. 3).
Is there a factory reset? None of the four manuals describes one. The closest thing is a restart: unplug and plug back in.
Which reset finally got your spa running, and on which pump? Tell me. Reader reports are how this table stays honest.
